Christine > Day 106: French Garlic (SOOC)
I'm not normally a morning person but last night I had an idea and couldn't wait to wake up to execute it. I bought a bunch of vegetables including these garlic bulbs that were on sale and wanted to use the morning light to photograph them. Tomorrow I think I'll shoot the baby artichokes I bought, also on sale. ;)
Christine > Day 99: Cemetary
Cemetaries at night terrify me. I would never, EVER enter one after dark, not even with a large group, I happen to be one of those people that believe in life after death and I would be too creeped out in the dark. By day, however, I happen to think most cemetaries are interesting and even beautiful. There's a really old cemetary on the North Fork (one of many actually) and there are no recent head stones. The best of the lot so to speak is still old and decrepid. I like looking at the names and wondering what kind of life each person lived. My husband wants to be cremated and thinks cemetaries are a waste of space even if it is attractive landscaping. I sort of want someone to walk past my headstone in 100 years and say, "Hey, is that THE Christine Friberg? The one that beat Annie Leibovitz at a photo shoot-out? You know, the one that made MILLIONS shooting pictures of her husbands feet?". Hey, it could happen.

Here is the product of my grocery shopping from yesterday for the Super Bowl party: Cajun Deviled Eggs. :)
Christine > Day 73: Pasta with Homemade Pesto
March 14, 2009
I happened upon a video of a chef in California making pesto in a most unusual way: by hand rather than in a food processor or blender. It looked difficult and complicated but was thick and creamy and looked absolutely delicious so of course I was all over it. I made it this evening for dinner and although it didn't come out exactly as it did on video (his was homogeneous), it was delicious. It required a looooong time using a mortar and pestle and I got tuckered out and quit while there were still pieces of green mixed in it. It was thick and creamy like on the video but you could see specks of basil in mine whereas the chef's was creamy but uniformly light green like avocado colored whipped butter. I think I burned off all the calories I consumed in the preparation lol. I will definitely try this again but will mortar and pestle my way to the absolute finish. Anyone interested in seeing the chef work his magic, it's on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYdAW9sZQrQ PS- it's best viewed on L or XL.
Christine > Day 60: Mysterious Seed Pods
March 1, 2009
Ken and I found these mysterious little seed pods on the shore of the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, NY. We have no idea what plant or tree they are from which surprises me because he is quite the horticulturist. Anyone have a clue?? I've been so busy on my cookbook that I haven't gone out all weekend. Ken has been begging me to photograph these little buggers for days. Funny though, once I viewed the actual photo blown up to full size we realied the middle one looks like a nose with it's mirrored reflection lol.
Christine > Day 116: Spinach Ricotta Pie
April 26, 2009
My family had a brunch today to celebrate my nephews 8th birthday as well has his First Holy Communion which took place the day before. I made this spinach ricotta pie as an alternative to a quiche. As with all my food shots, the recipe is available on www.threebitesfoodblog.com . :)
Christine > Day 108: Artichokes
April 18, 2009
Today they're just beautiful fresh artichokes that I bought the other day on sale. Tonight they'll be chicken piccatta with artichoke hearts for dinner. All Smugmuggers invited (I'll hold the garlic for Nawsett Pete). PS for Pete- I was using a dslr to shoot the chopsticks. It was hard to be discreet but it was a pretty dark restaurant. I think it was a little fresh in hindsight though. ;)
Christine > Day 98: Goat
April 8, 2009
Another animal from the organic farm down the road. I love this guy.
Christine > Day 112: Pink Buds
April 22, 2009
It's earth day so I thought I'd post something that grows in the earth. I passed this tree on my way to work this morning and since I didn't want to be late, I made a mental note to stop on my way home. I noticed a recurring problem while I was just polising up my shots in photoshop (I rarely do anything more than simple adjustments with brightness and vibrance, I like my photos to look natural and don't like to overdo the photoshop). So many of my shots today were greatly improved by simply clicking the auto tone in PS. Is there some way I can tell what setting I can adjust in my camera to not have to do this? Was it because it wasn't a sunny day maybe and auto tone brightened it up? I'm at a loss here. I created a gallery ( http://christinefriberg.smugmug.com/gallery/7984964_nBuAP#518912469_wmJME ) in the hopes some of my very kind fellow smugmuggers could check out my three examples and come up with any suggestions. I'm hoping it's just the lack of sun rather than poor choice of exposure lol!! Thanks in advance to anyone that can take the time. :)
